Two Years, One Mountain Pass: How I Conquered Hardknott

Two years ago, Hardknott Pass nearly broke me. I was terrified, overwhelmed, and absolutely convinced I wasn’t cut out for technical mountain roads. Fast forward to this weekend, and everything has changed.

In this video, I return to Hardknott Pass, one of the UK’s steepest and most intimidating roads, to face the same challenge with a new mindset and two more years of riding experience. What I found wasn’t just better control over the bike, but a deeper sense of confidence and calm I didn’t have before.

This isn’t a technical tutorial or an advanced riding demo; it’s a personal reflection. A side-by-side comparison of fear versus focus, hesitation versus flow. It’s about progress, growth, and the quiet pride that comes from knowing just how far you’ve come.

So if you’re a new rider, nervous about steep roads or feeling like you’re not progressing fast enough, this one’s for you. Growth doesn’t always look like speed. Sometimes it looks like stillness in motion.
