Can-Am released electric motorcycle range for 2024

After nearly 40 years of absence, the renowned Canadian powerhouse Bombardier Recreational Products is coming back to the motorcycle industry in 2024 with a vast selection of high-performance electrifying motorbikes. Get ready for an unparalleled riding experience!

The company recently released a promotional motorcycle video that unveiled two new models. During their reveal, it was noted that the return the companies return to two wheels in honour of its 50th anniversary. More impressively, it occurred just six months after BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products) declared a resurrection of Can-Am as a motorcycle manufacturer.

Introducing the Can-Am motorcycle

José Boisjoli, President and CEO of BRP, said “Today, our story of innovation reaches new heights with the reveal of market-shaping electric products that will enhance consumer experience on the road,” said José Boisjoli, President and CEO of BRP.

“With the motorcycle industry shifting to electric, we saw an opportunity to reclaim our motorcycle heritage and to re-enter the market. This new product category is extremely important to us, and we are thrilled that Can-Am motorcycles are the first EV models in BRP’s electric line-up to be confirmed to consumers. Many of us have very fond memories of riding the early dirt bike models, and now we look forward to building on the rich history of the Can-Am brand to inspire and impress a new generation of motorcyclists and electric vehicle enthusiasts.”

Following this, the Pulse and Origin were unveiled to represent its two-wheel models by Can-Am for the first time in 35 years. These new models are due for launch next year since Can-Am initially launched back in 1973 and they should reach showrooms by mid-2024. Get excited; the anticipation is almost over!

What is the Can-Am Origin?

Designed for those looking for a modern multi-terrain experience, the Can-Am Origin is the larger of the two models presented. This model embodies the company’s ‘Track ‘n’ Trail’ legacy and allows you to enjoy thrilling adventures on both the street and trails!

What is the Can-Am Pulse?

The Can-Am Pulse is an agile small-to-mid-sized roadster intended for city commuters. It has been specifically designed to compete with LiveWire Del Mar and will provide a smooth, exhilarating ride in urban settings.

Specifications

The brilliance of these Can-Am electric motorcycles lies in their interchangeable central core, which houses batteries and control electronics. This allows each bike to be customized with its own swingarm, fork, bars, pegs and seat subframes! On top of that – the electric motors are situated near the pivot point for added ease when switching out parts without modifying the main structure. The ultimate goal is a single production line where workers can choose from various model versions at assembly time.

Boasting a seldom-seen feature, the swingarm is equipped with an enclosed chain final drive that utilizes a single-speed reduction gearbox for efficient power transmission from the motor to its front sprocket.

To ensure quiet operation, BRP has created a chain tensioner that is covered for extra protection. Furthermore, the oil bath design keeps it lubricated at all times so there’s no need to use messy sprays or oils – meaning you never have to adjust your chains ever again! With this revolutionary innovation, expect an extended lifespan of your system with minimum noise and upkeep requirements.

The patent diagrams uncovered the engineering of the single-sided swingarm, which mirrors that are displayed in the teaser. Interestingly, this includes a distinctive three-bolt hub for securing a rear wheel. The specifications outline five distinct bikes built around this same structure, including not only what was revealed in the initial teaser but also additional variations like an adventure model, sports edition, classic roadster and cruiser. This is even more than what was originally teased with four models!

Performance

Can-Am has yet to provide the performance requirements for either of the new Can-Am electric motorcycles, but it has utilized its partnership with German engine outfit Rotax – widely known for their Kart machines and collaborations with BMW, Aprilia and KTM – by creating ‘Rotax E-POWER’ technology. This yields fast highway speeds alongside plenty of torque and horsepower.

Nevertheless, it is the stunning design of Pulse and Origin that will undoubtedly attract attention. Both Pulse and Origin are masterpieces of smart design, showcasing an alluring headlight arrangement that stands out from the crowd. Furthermore, their sleek fairings cleverly conceal bulky battery packs within elegant moulds that set a new standard for electric vehicle aesthetics.
